KATHMANDU: Malaysian automaker Proton has launched its new e.MAS 5 electric hatchback in the Nepali market, with official distributor Jagdamba Motors commencing sales from today.

The e.MAS 5 is available in two variants. The Prime variant is priced at Rs 2.999 million, while the Premium variant costs Rs 3.499 million.

The e.MAS 5 is a rebadged version of Geely’s Xingyuan electric hatchback, which is manufactured in China.

The Prime variant is powered by a 58 kW electric motor producing 130 Nm of torque, paired with a 30.12 kWh battery pack. Proton claims the model delivers a driving range of up to 225 km on a single full charge.

The Premium variant features a more powerful 85 kW motor generating 150 Nm of torque and is equipped with a larger 40.16 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of up to 325 km per charge.

Built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, the e.MAS 5 measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the hatchback features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a multifunction steering wheel, and either a 10.1-inch or 14.6-inch infotainment display, depending on the variant. Other highlights include HiCar connectivity, a 50W wireless charger, customizable 256-color ambient lighting, and keyless entry.

On the safety front, the e.MAS 5 comes equipped with six airbags, a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and several other safety features.

With a compact 4.95-metre turning radius, the e.MAS 5 is designed to offer greater maneuverability, making it well suited for urban driving.
