JHAPA: The District Administration Office in Jhapa has fined Das Kirana Pasal Rs 200,000 for selling expired animal feed.
Chief District Officer Shrawan Kumar Pokharel stated that the action was taken against the store, located in Mechinagar Municipality-9, under Section 39 (ja) of the Food Safety Act, following an investigation report from the Food Technology Office in Bhadrapur.
On Sept. 7, authorities seized 490 kilograms of expired Shakti brand animal feed from the store, produced by Birgunj-based Pro-Biotech Industries Limited.
The seized products, spanning four batch numbers, had an expiry period of 60 days from the production date of May 20, 2026.
A local resident, Jaya Prasad Acharya, reported that his cow fell ill after consuming feed purchased from the shop on Aug. 30, resulting in Rs 4,000 in veterinary expenses.
Separately, a joint team from the Inland Revenue Office and the District Administration Office conducted an inspection at Shivam Trade and Suppliers in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-3.
The inspection followed complaints that the store was selling barbed wire at Rs 360 per kilogram, significantly higher than the market rate of Rs 125.
