KARNALI: Karnali Province Chief Yagya Raj Joshi has said that a shared commitment is necessary for the development and prosperity of Karnali.
Addressing the Province Inception and Martyrs’ Day 2083 Main Ceremony organized by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, in Birendranagar, Surkhet today, he said that the prosperity of this province is only possible through everyone’s collective thinking and efforts.
He suggested that the provincial government should focus on good governance, accountability, and transparency for the development of Karnali.
Province Chief Joshi said, “The government must demonstrate its capability to build a province free of corruption and with zero tolerance. All parties should be responsible for the development, prosperity, and progress of Karnali Province.”
He pointed out that monsoon-related disasters are still ongoing and emphasized the need to create a multi-party mechanism to reach the homes of the affected people in Jajarkot and make them feel the presence of the government.
The Chief of the Province mentioned that looking at the high potential in Karnali through the lens of poverty is a big weakness and commented that it is sad that the gas project in Dailekh, which is a long-term project that could contribute to the country’s prosperity and development, has been halted for two years.
Also speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mangal Bahadur Shahi said that the development of the province established with the dedication and sacrifice of the people of Karnali would help for the transformation of the entire country.
Paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of Karnali Province, he argued that as the country moved towards federalism, Karnali asserted its own identity and existence through its own strength.
Province Assembly Speaker Nanda Gurung said that Nepal’s constitution, federalism, and inclusiveness have brought justice to neglected and oppressed regions like Karnali.
She said that the people of Karnali sacrificed their lives to give birth to this province, and the federal government should play a special role in the development of the province and improving the living standards of its citizens.
Former Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel said that the country’s prosperity is impossible without the development and growth of Karnali, which covers the largest geographical area of the nation.
He mentioned that for the region’s development, coordination and cooperation among the provincial government, parties, stakeholders, local bodies, and the federal government are necessary. The former Chief Minister pointed out that the government should have the capacity to make full use of Karnali’s means and resources.
At the event, the provincial government’s Minister for Social Development, Jeet Bahadur Malla, welcomed everyone and said that the government will move forward by following the path shown by the martyrs.
Provincial Finance Minister Tekraj Pachhai, Water Resources Minister Kal Bahadur Hamal, provincial assembly members, judges, chief secretaries of the provincial government, chiefs of security agencies, families of martyrs, employees, journalists, media personnel, and artists attended the programme.
