KATHMANDU: Kathmandu valley launched a new night bus service today, deploying 28 electric buses to improve public transport.
Operated by Sajha Yatayat, the buses will run from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. to connect various parts of the valley.
The service covers six routes across the capital. According to the metropolitan city office, six buses will operate between Godawari and Budhanilkantha, and another six will run from Jagati in Bhaktapur to Thamel via Ratnapark.
Additionally, four buses will serve the route from the airport to Nagdhunga in Chandragiri, while four will connect Kirtipur to the Nepal Airlines Corporation office in New Road. Eight buses are designated for two-way service along the Ring Road.
Officials stated that the Ring Road service allows passengers to transfer to other routes as needed. The maximum fare for these trips has been set at Rs 80. Sajha Yatayat is backed by a government investment of Rs 3 billion, along with a Rs 150 million share investment from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The company currently operates a fleet of 111 buses.
