Kathmandu Metropolis signs deal with post office for mail delivery

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has entered into an agreement with the Goswara Post Office in Dillibazaar to handle its official correspondence and parcel deliveries.

The initiative aims to streamline the dispatch of letters, reports, invitations, certificates, and parcels to various agencies and individuals.

The agreement was signed on Friday in the presence of Chief Administrative Officer Mukti Ram Aryal, with Administration Department Head Mahesh Kafle and Chief Postal Officer Dhal Bahadur GC representing the metropolis and the post office, respectively.

The partnership is designed to ensure that all outgoing correspondence is managed in a systematic, secure, and timely manner.

Under the new arrangement, all outgoing mail from the metropolis’s various departments, divisions, and projects will be collected at a central liaison unit. The post office will then process these items, classify them, and manage their distribution. The post office is required to provide delivery receipts to the metropolis and submit monthly service bills.

For urgent items weighing up to two kilograms within the metropolitan area, a ‘same day’ delivery service will be provided. Registry and parcel items are scheduled for delivery on the following day. For areas outside the metropolitan city but within the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts, items will be handed over under the registry service for delivery as soon as possible. Postal services for other districts will follow the existing operational schedule.

The agreement emphasizes the need for secure packaging by the metropolitan authorities to prevent loss or damage, while the post office is expected to exercise high caution during transit. In cases where a recipient refuses an item or delivery is otherwise unsuccessful, the item will be returned to the metropolitan liaison unit. This agreement is valid for a period of one year.
