KATHMANDU: The Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City has signed performance contracts with resource teachers aimed at improving the quality of education and making teaching and learning processes in community schools more practical and effective.

Education Department Chief Namraj Dhakal and the resource teachers signed the agreements based on the Resource Teacher Management Procedure, 2080 BS, and a decision of the Education and Health Committee made on August 7.

Under the agreement, resource teachers will be required to prepare and implement weekly and monthly action plans to improve the teaching and learning environment at schools within their assigned areas.

They will also facilitate the effective implementation of Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s education policies and programmes at the school level, support teachers’ professional development, and coordinate efforts to address problems faced by schools.

Resource teachers must teach at least one class every day at the school where they are assigned. They are also required to record their attendance through the city’s attendance system during school hours.

If a resource teacher is unable to take classes because of participation in training or other official programmes, the metropolitan city will arrange a substitute teacher.

The performance contracts will remain in effect until the end of Ashadh 2084 BS.

According to Department Chief Dhakal, the performance evaluation of resource teachers will be linked to the achievement of targets and progress against the indicators specified in the contracts.

“Making community-school education competitive requires planned teaching and learning and a child-friendly environment. We cannot afford to stop or deviate from this goal,” Dhakal told the resource teachers.

The overall objective of the agreements is to improve educational outcomes across Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Nine resource centres to oversee schools

Kathmandu Metropolitan City previously had 11 resource centres, which have now been consolidated into nine.

The nine resource centres are Shanti Nikunj Secondary School, Bhagwatibari; Tangal Secondary School, Tangal; Janapravat Secondary School, Kalimati; Padmakanya Secondary School, Dillibazar; Koteshwor Saraswati Secondary School, Koteshwor; Pashupati Mitra Secondary School, Chabahil; Guheshwori Secondary School, Sinamangal; Shanti Shiksha Mandir Secondary School, Thamel; and Tarun Secondary School, Balaju.

The Shanti Nikunj Secondary School resource centre will oversee 15 community schools and 46 institutional schools in wards 11, 15, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23. Dinesh K.C. has been assigned as its resource teacher.

The Tangal resource centre covers eight community schools and 71 institutional schools in wards 2, 3, 4, 5 and 30. Pratima Dulal has been appointed as the resource teacher.

The Janapravat Secondary School resource centre oversees 10 community schools and 44 institutional schools in wards 12, 13 and 14. Kamal Prasad Bhatt has been assigned as its resource teacher.

Khagraj Joshi has been appointed resource teacher at the Padmakanya Secondary School resource centre, which will oversee 11 community schools and 32 institutional schools in wards 1, 10, 27, 28 and 29.

The Koteshwor Saraswati resource centre will oversee five community schools and 46 institutional schools in ward 32 and the prison area. Sushil Khanal has been assigned responsibility for the centre.

Narayan Nepal has been deployed as the resource teacher at the Pashupati Mitra resource centre, which covers eight community schools and 70 institutional schools in wards 6 and 7.

The Guheshwori Secondary School resource centre will oversee eight community schools and 49 institutional schools in wards 8, 9 and 31. Ramesh Kumar Darji has been assigned as its resource teacher.

Rashmi Tamang has been appointed resource teacher at the Shanti Shiksha Mandir resource centre, which covers 13 community schools and 25 institutional schools in wards 17, 18, 25, 26 and 27.

The Tarun Secondary School resource centre will oversee six community schools and 46 institutional schools in ward 16. Kapil Jung Pandey has been assigned as its resource teacher.
