Lamjung’s communities still reliant on small hydropower projects

A A+ A-

LAMJUNG: Due to the absence of a national transmission line, residents of Pasgaon, Singdi, and other settlements throughout the district, along with one village in Rainas Municipality, remain dependent on small hydropower facilities. When small hydropower projects experience reduced output, electricity supply correspondingly diminishes.

According to Sovit Bahadur Chhetri, head of the Nepal Electricity Authority Distribution Centre, the national transmission line has yet to reach approximately 20 households in a Rainas Municipality village and settlements including Pasgaon, Singdi, and others within Kholasothar Rural Municipality.

Electricity services have thus far been extended to 44,000 households across the district. Despite Singdi village containing approximately 220 to 225 households, supply disruptions occur when small hydropower project output declines.

Previously, the facility generated 40 kilowatts of electricity; however, current maximum production stands at only 25 kilowatts.

Following this production decrease, power supply is interrupted for four hours daily. Gamimaya Gurung, vice chair of Kholasothar Rural Municipality, expressed concern that despite multiple requests for national transmission line extension to various settlements within the rural municipality, no action has been taken.
