SINDHUPALCHOK: Authorities have urged residents living along the Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi river corridors to remain on high alert after a landslide from the Chinese side of the border partially blocked the flow of the Bhotekoshi River.

According to a notice issued by the Flood Forecasting Division at around 12:00 pm on Thursday, rocks and mud have been continuously falling from a cliff in Lipingpari, across the border in China’s Nyalam area near Jhimu Post.

Local police informed the division that the landslide has obstructed nearly half of the river’s flow as the Bhotekoshi enters Nepal from China. In view of the situation, the division has asked people residing in riverbank areas from Bhotekoshi to the Sunkoshi and downstream up to Dolalghat to exercise caution until further notice.

The Flood Forecasting Division stated that continuous monitoring is underway and warned that any sudden release of accumulated water or debris could increase the risk of flooding in downstream settlements. Residents, local governments, and security agencies in the affected areas have been advised to stay alert and follow official updates.
