KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides and road erosion, disrupting traffic on several major highways across Nepal, with 11 road sections now fully blocked, according to Nepal Police.

In its road status update issued at 6 a.m. on Saturday, police said the affected routes include key national highways and strategic road corridors.

Police said traffic on the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli has been suspended between Khurkot, Nepalthok and Katunjebesi from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. as a precaution against possible flooding.

Other roads that remain completely blocked include the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, the Lamasangu–Ramechhap Road in Dolakha, the Pasang Lhamu Highway and the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubesi Road in Rasuwa, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, the Ghorahi–Thabang Road in Rolpa and the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West.

Meanwhile, sections of the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur and Khotang have been reduced to one-way traffic due to flooding and landslides.

With rainfall continuing across many parts of the country, Nepal Police warned that the risk of further landslides and flooding remains high and urged travelers to check the latest road conditions before beginning their journey.
