KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Chandramohan Yadav has objected to what he described as an attempt to shift the proposed trauma center planned for Dhalkebar in Dhanusha to another location.

Speaking during Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Yadav criticized Minister for Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta after she reportedly stated that the trauma center would be built elsewhere rather than in Dhalkebar.

The controversy emerged after Minister Mehta said that a trauma center would be established in Lahan of Madhesh Province. Yadav clarified that he had no objection to the construction of trauma centers in other places, but insisted that the dedicated trauma center proposed for Dhalkebar must be built under any circumstances.

“We have no objection if trauma centers are built elsewhere,” Yadav said. “But where has the dedicated trauma center planned for Dhalkebar disappeared? That is my question to the government.”
The federal government had allocated funds in the fiscal year 2021/22 budget for the construction of a trauma center in Dhalkebar, Dhanusha, based on public land located in present-day Mithila Municipality-7.

Although funds have reportedly continued to be allocated under the same heading every year since then, the construction of the trauma center has yet to move forward. Following Yadav’s remarks, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal directed the government to provide factual information on the matter.
