Leftist forces must undergo self-examination to survive, says Narayan Kaji Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha has stated that the protection of national sovereignty, geographical integrity and national independence remains the primary task for the country.

He emphasized that the immediate priority is to be prepared to do whatever is necessary to save the nation.

Shrestha expressed concern that leftist forces have limited their focus to defending the democratic republic as a mere response against regression. He claimed that the leadership of leftist forces is essential to effectively implement a socialist-oriented state and economy. While acknowledging that the public provided a strong mandate to leftist parties at the federal, provincial and local levels following the promulgation of the constitution, he noted that these forces have failed to fulfill their responsibilities accordingly.

He warned that if leftist forces fail to lead, the constitution will not be implemented according to its true spirit, risking the stagnation of change within a traditional parliamentary framework. Shrestha called for cooperation and the formation of a united front among all leftist forces to address urgent national issues and lead the struggle through all necessary processes.

Stressing the need for brutal introspection, transformation and reorganization, Shrestha stated, ‘Otherwise, due to the rapid continuation of ideological and cultural erosion and capitalist corruption, we will not only be unable to fulfill today’s national tasks, but we will also not be able to save ourselves.’
