BAGAMATI: The District Administration Office of Makwanpur has urged all relevant sides to pay attention to citizens’ food security, hygiene and consumer rights.
After Krishnabhir section in Dhading on the Prithvi Highway was blocked due to floods and landslides, road traffic is being managed via the Tribhuvan Highway and the Kanti Highway.
In this situation, the administration has requested that roadsides and markets along these highways and alternative routes consider food safety, hygiene, and consumer rights.
In a notice issued by Administrative Officer Santosh Subedi, complaints have been received that hotels, restaurants, shops, and some businesses along the highways have been disregarding citizens’ food safety, hygiene, and consumer rights by exploiting travelers with different situations, charging high prices, not displaying price lists, and selling or distributing substandard, inedible, and unhealthy food.
The administration has arranged for cargo and large passenger vehicles to go towards Kathmandu via Tribhuwan Rajpath and return via Kanti Highway, the district administration stated.
Likewise, small passenger vehicles will travel to and from Kathmandu via the Bhimphedi–Kulekhani route, to make traffic flow easier, safer, and more organized.
Administrative Officer Subedi warned strict action agaisnt businesspeople/vendors if found engaged in violating consumer rights.
He urged passengers and consumers to only make payments with bills/receipts, check the price list, and immediately report any irregularities or issues to the nearest police station or District Administration Office.
