KATHMANDU: The members of the Board of Directors (Board) at the ‘Loss and Damage Fund’ under the United Nations Climate Framework have demanded an emergency meeting of the Fund to address humanitarian and physical urgencies in Nepal in response to the catastrophic floods occurred in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has informed RSS that 14 Board and alternate members from African countries, the Asia-Pacific region and the group of Least Developed Countries (LDC) wrote a joint letter, demanding a special meeting to provide prompt financial assistance to Nepal.
The letter was written addressing the Co-Chairs and Executive Directors of the Fund on Thursday. They urged the high level office bearers to mobilize resources immediately in view of the human loss, displacement and destruction of energy and transport systems and economic infrastructures caused by the unimaginable climate-related disaster that struck Nepal on August 26.
Earlier, Minister for Forest, Gita Chaudhary, and Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle had sent a letter to the Fund on August 31, requesting for emergency assistance. The appeal prompted the representatives of the developing countries to express their support for Nepal.
