RUPANDEHI: The Lumbini provincial government is set to implement a decision to provide transport-related services through cottage and small industry offices to expand service accessibility.
The plan involves utilizing these offices as branches for transport services in districts where such facilities are currently unavailable.
Addressing the annual review program for the fiscal year 2025/26 in Rapti Valley (Deukhuri) on Thursday, Chief Minister Chetnarayan Acharya stated that the decision aims to provide easier and faster services to the public.
He clarified, ‘The current system will remain unchanged in areas where transport services are already operational, while cottage offices will be used as branches to provide services in districts where they are not yet available.’
The government plans to launch vehicle permit services across 12 districts starting from mid-September (Ashoj).
Chief Minister Acharya noted that the government is also preparing to gradually delegate authority for services such as driver’s license renewal to the remaining six districts. He has directed the relevant agencies to proceed with the necessary preparations.
Emphasizing that the transport sector is a vital source of revenue for the provincial government, Acharya called for maintaining transparency and accountability. He directed officials to work responsibly and put an end to the trend of keeping service recipients waiting unnecessarily.
He stated, ‘Complete tasks that can be finished within an hour within that hour.’ Furthermore, he instructed staff to remain disciplined and strictly adhere to the law to ensure that no questions are raised regarding transport operations.
