Madhesh Government in Crisis After CPN-UML Withdraws Support

A A+ A-

JANAKPURDHAM: The government of Madhesh Province, led by Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, has fallen into a crisis after the CPN-UML withdrew its support on Friday.

The provincial government is now in the minority following the formal submission of a withdrawal letter to Provincial Chief Surendra Labh Karna, signed by CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav.

Prior to the withdrawal of support, ministers representing the CPN-UML resigned from their posts.

The ministers who stepped down include Minister for Infrastructure Development Mohammad Samir, Minister for Sports and Social Welfare Lakhan Das Tatma, Minister for Labour and Transport Sharda Devi Thapa, and Minister for Education and Culture Manoj Singh.

Minister for Sports and Social Welfare Tatma stated that the party decided to withdraw support because the Chief Minister failed to address any of the 15 points agreed upon between the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the Nepal Communist Party during the formation of the government.

He added, ‘We provided support with the objective of addressing good governance, development, and public interest, but the Chief Minister did not implement the agreement despite repeated reminders.’

Following the withdrawal of support by the CPN-UML, Chief Minister Yadav is now constitutionally required to seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly within 30 days.
