DHANUSHA: The Madhesh Province government is going to distribute relief to people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood in the second phase from today.

A meeting of the Provincial Disaster Management Executive Committee convened on Monday at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers decided to this effect.

The meeting was chaired by Minister for Home, Communications and Law Fakira Mahato, with Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav attending the meeting as the chief guest.Follow

g the meeting, Minister Mahato informed that the meeting dwelt on the assistance required from the provincial government for post-disaster operation such as search, rescue, rehabilitation of the people hit hard by the catastrophic disaster.

Minister Mahato shared that 7,000 blankets and 700 tents for temporary accommodation will be sent to the flood-affected area today as a part of immediate relief effort.

He reaffirmed that the provincial government would continue to provide additional assistance.

The Minister also pledged to coordinate with authorities concerned agencies and manage displaced families so as to address the immediate needs of those affected.

According to him, the provincial government had doled out around Rs 5.5 million in the first phase.

“This time, we have decided to send blankets and tents,” he said, adding that another meeting to be convened today will discuss additional relief measures.

The meeting underscored that protecting lives and providing humanitarian assistance to people in distress are among the government’s foremost responsibilities during a disaster.

It also highlighted the need to ensure that relief and support reach affected families in an effective, timely and well-coordinated manner.

It may be noted that a devastating flood in Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa district on August 26 had wrecked havoc, damaging scores of lives and property.
