DHADING: Police have arrested a man in Dhading on charges of keeping jewellery recovered after the August 26 Bhotekoshi flood without informing the rightful owner.
According to Prakash Dahal, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office, Dhading, the arrested man has been identified as Ram Bahadur Tamang, 35, of Banchhetar at ward no. 6 of Gajuri rural municipality in Dhading district.
The jewellery belonged to Lil Bahadur Bogati of Trishuli Bazaar in ward no. 1 of Bidur municipality, Nuwakot district whose house was swept away by the devastating flood that entered the Trishuli River through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district.
Tamang reportedly found the jewellery on August 27 and kept it at his home without informing anyone.
Bogati, the lawful owner of the jewellery, later learned from others that Tamang had recovered his valuables and subsequently informed the police.
Acting on the information, a police team deployed from the temporary police post at Adamghat took Tamang into custody, informed DSP Dahal.
Police recovered three pieces of yellow metal bangles resembling gold, two pairs of earrings, two necklaces, two rings, two mangalsutra (traditional necklace for married women) and two pairs of anklets made of white metal resembling silver.
Police said that further investigation into the case was underway at the Area Police Office, Gajuri, on charges related to theft.
