KATHMANDU: The Mankamana cable car service has been suspended after a road section inside its gate collapsed in Ichhakamana Rural Municipality-4 of Chitwan.
The closure follows damage caused by continuous rainfall and the Trishuli River.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the flow of the Trishuli River began hitting the suspension bridge that connects to Silingtar in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-3 of Gorkha.
According to Ward Chairman Rudra Upreti of Ichhakamana-4, the river changed its course and caused constant impact on the bridge, leading to cracks in the main highway and the collapse of the internal road leading to the cable car station.
Upreti noted that the persistent pressure from the river against the bridge has increased the risk in the surrounding area. Due to the road damage and ongoing safety concerns, the cable car facility has halted its operations.
