KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Manish Jha has said that the questions being raised about the Home Administration’s handling of the Sunsari unrest are serious and require urgent attention.
Speaking to reporters after Madhes-based RSP lawmakers met party chairman Rabi Lamichhane, Jha noted that Home Minister Sudhan Gurung himself had emerged from a protest movement and understood the suffering of ordinary people.
“The questions coming from the streets about the Home Administration are serious,” Jha said. “The home minister is someone who understands protests and has stood with victims in difficult times.”
Jha expressed hope that the government would still be able to resolve the escalating crisis, but said the state had not shown the level of urgency required in the Sunsari incident.
“The state’s response does not appear to have been as active or as prompt as it should have been,” he said. “The family of the deceased deserves consolation and compensation, and there seems to have been a shortfall in that regard.”
The RSP leader also warned that the unrest spreading from Sunsari had made Janakpur feel increasingly insecure. “Janakpur does not look safe today,” said Jha, who represents Dhanusha-3 in Parliament. “Shops are closed, markets are shut, and people are burning tires at intersections in protest. The situation appears quite difficult.”
