KATHMANDU: A man participating in a protest by microfinance victims attempted self-immolation at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
According to police, the 45-year-old protester poured kerosene over his body in an apparent attempt to set himself on fire during the demonstration organized by people affected by microfinance institutions.
Police officers present at the protest intervened before he could ignite the fuel and successfully prevented the self-immolation attempt.
The Kathmandu Police Range said the man was immediately taken to Bir Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Further details about his condition have not yet been released.
