KATHMANDU: Gen-Z movement campaigner Miraj Dhungana on Tuesday called for an impartial judicial investigation into the recent violence in Sunsari’s Dewanganj, urging the government to hold those responsible accountable while warning against blaming entire religious or ethnic communities for the actions of individuals.

Dhungana and Gen-Z campaigners have urged the government to conduct an impartial judicial investigation into the recent violent incident in Sunsari’s Dewanganj and bring those responsible to justice.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday, campaigners Miraj Dhungana, Dr. Jagat Bik, and Saurabh Bhandari presented a five-point demand to the government.

Their demands include an independent judicial investigation into the incident, legal action against those responsible, adequate relief, compensation, and justice for the victims’ families, stronger coordination and preparedness among security agencies in sensitive areas, and the establishment of a regular dialogue mechanism between local governments, the administration, and communities.

The campaigners also drew the government’s attention to the use of gunfire and force during the incident, urging authorities to introduce a clear action plan to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In their statement, they emphasized that holding an entire religion or community collectively responsible for the actions of individuals would be harmful to Nepal’s social harmony.

“We want to state clearly that Nepal is a multi-religious, multi-ethnic, and multicultural nation. It is inappropriate to blame an entire community based on a single incident. Individuals or groups who commit crimes must be held accountable under the law, but collectively holding any religion or community responsible is detrimental to social harmony,” the statement said.
