KATHMANDU: Mondays recorded the highest number of crimes in Kathmandu during fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS), while the busiest period for criminal incidents was between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm, according to police data.

A total of 11,078 criminal cases were registered in Kathmandu during the fiscal year, of which 2,298 cases (20.74%) were reported on Mondays. Saturdays recorded the fewest cases, with 1,155, followed by Fridays (1,166), Sundays (1,427), Tuesdays (1,585), Thursdays (1,693) and Wednesdays (1,739).

Kathmandu Police spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said the unusually high number of Monday cases could be because complaints accumulated over the weekend are often filed after offices reopen.

By month, Chaitra recorded the highest number of cases at 1,166, while Ashoj saw the fewest, with 405 cases, partly because police services were disrupted following the Gen-Z protests.

Police data also show that 5,750 crimes were reported between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm, making it the peak period for criminal activity. This was followed by 2,353 cases between 6:00 pm and midnight, 1,594 between midnight and 6:00 am, and 1,461 between 6:00 am and noon.
