KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to influence weather conditions across Nepal, with the monsoon trough currently positioned close to its average location, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

The mountainous and hilly parts of the country are experiencing generally cloudy conditions. The Terai areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces are also mostly cloudy, while the remaining Terai regions are partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain is being reported at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

The Division forecasts generally cloudy weather across the country this afternoon. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, are possible at some places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of the mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

According to the latest weather bulletin, many parts of the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. Similar conditions are expected in some areas of the hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Some parts of the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are also likely to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Similar rainfall is possible in some parts of the Terai region of Sudurpaschim Province. Heavy rainfall is forecast in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

The country is expected to remain generally cloudy tonight as well. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning are likely in many parts of the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and in some parts of the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Many areas of the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Similar conditions are expected in some parts of the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning is also possible in some parts of the Terai region.

Heavy rainfall is forecast in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi Province and at one or two locations in the hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

The Division has advised people in areas likely to receive heavy rainfall to remain alert, citing the risk of flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion. The weather could also disrupt daily activities and affect agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transportation and air services. Authorities have urged the public and concerned stakeholders to regularly follow the latest weather updates.
