Kathmandu: The Nepal Police has issued a comprehensive travel update as severe monsoon rainfall, river erosion, landslides, and road cave-ins cause major disruptions across the country’s main highway network.
Critical national arteries, including the Prithvi Highway at Krishnabhir in Dhading, the Araniko Highway at Ghattekhola in Sindhupalchok, and the Phidim–Phalot road in Panchthar, remain completely blocked.
Cargo and passenger movements along the BP Highway are operating under strict timed shifts, while freight routes through Makwanpur have been redirected with mandatory checkpost cut-offs and weight restrictions on weak infrastructure like the Trikhandi Bailey bridge.
Meanwhile, severe flood damage has completely destroyed sections of the Pasang Lhamu Highway along the Trishuli River, forcing traffic bound for the Rasuwagadhi border onto a single-lane dirt detour passing through rural Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
Elsewhere, night-travel bans have been imposed on the Tokha–Chhahare stretch, alternating 2-hour closures are in place along the Narayangadh–Mugling corridor for slope work, and concrete road construction has temporarily shut down the Besisahar–Chame road in Manang.
Authorities strongly advise the public to defer non-essential travel, obey traffic control directions, and maintain strict discipline on all operational routes.
