KATHMANDU: Active monsoon conditions are continuing across Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall in parts of the country and urging people in vulnerable areas to stay alert to possible weather-related hazards.

The weather remains generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in some locations of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and in a few places of Koshi, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, cloud cover is expected to persist throughout the country this afternoon. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall may occur in some mountainous regions, while parts of the Terai in Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are also likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

The division has warned of heavy rainfall in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the hilly regions of Karnali Province. One or two locations in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province may also experience heavy rain.

Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected to continue across the country. Rain and snowfall may occur in some mountainous areas, while many hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

Similar rainfall conditions are also expected in some hilly and Terai areas of Madhes Province, the hilly areas of Karnali Province, and the hilly and Terai regions of Bagmati Province.

The division further warned that isolated places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as the hilly areas of Bagmati Province, could receive heavy rainfall.

Residents of flood- and landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain cautious, as intense rainfall may increase the risk of flash floods, inundation, landslides, and soil erosion. The weather could also disrupt daily life, agriculture, tourism, and road and air transportation services.
