KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to influence weather conditions across Nepal, with the monsoon trough lying near its normal position in the east and closer to Nepal than its average position in the west.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, along with parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, are experiencing generally cloudy conditions. The Terai areas of Madhesh, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are partly cloudy.

Moderate rainfall is currently occurring at some places in Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces, as well as at a few places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces and one or two places in Gandaki Province.

The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely in some mountainous and hilly areas. Similar rainfall is possible in parts of the Terai, particularly in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and some areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including Madhesh Province.

Heavy rainfall is likely at some places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, while one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province could also receive heavy rain.

Tonight, the mountainous and hilly regions are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai will see partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning are likely at some places in the Himalayan and hilly regions. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also possible in parts of the Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as at one or two places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, including Madhesh Province.

The division has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces tonight.

Authorities have urged people to remain alert as heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion in vulnerable areas. The public has also been advised to follow the latest weather forecasts and warnings, as adverse weather could disrupt daily activities, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transportation and air services.
