KATHMANDU: Active monsoon conditions are expected to bring rainfall to several parts of Nepal today, with the Weather Forecasting Division warning of moderate to heavy rain in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The weather is currently generally cloudy in the country’s hilly and mountainous regions. Partial cloud cover is prevailing in the Terai areas of Madhesh and Koshi provinces, as well as in the southern plains of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
According to the Division, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Karnali provinces.
This afternoon, generally cloudy conditions are expected in Koshi and Madhesh provinces and in the country’s hilly and mountainous regions, while the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to remain partly cloudy.
Moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning, along with possible snowfall in higher elevations, is forecast in some mountainous and hilly areas. Similar rainfall is likely in parts of the Terai regions of Madhesh, Koshi and Bagmati provinces, while isolated places in Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may also receive heavy rain.
The Division has forecast generally cloudy weather across the country tonight. Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, and possible snowfall at higher elevations, is expected in parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in some areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Likewise, moderate to heavy rain may occur in parts of the Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at one or two places in Madhesh Province.
The Weather Forecasting Division has urged residents of vulnerable areas to remain cautious, warning that heavy rainfall could increase the risk of flash floods, flooding, landslides and soil erosion. Such conditions may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation services.
