KATHMANDU: Continuous monsoon rainfall has caused floods, landslides, and road erosion, severely affecting traffic movement on several major highways across the country.

Nepal Police Headquarters reported that the Mechi Highway in Ilam, BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok, Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur, and Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk have been fully closed.

Floods and landslides have also blocked the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi Road in Rasuwa, Prithvi Highway in Dhading, Mid-Hill Highway in Lamjung, Mid-Hill Highway in Rukum East, and the Bheri Corridor Road in Rukum West.

According to police, traffic is operating in one direction only on the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, the Beni-Jomsom Road in Mustang, and the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur.

Authorities have advised the public to obtain the latest information on road conditions from the relevant agencies before travelling, noting that the ongoing monsoon continues to pose risks of flooding, landslides, and road damage.
