KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Krantishikha Dhital has demanded that the government immediately mobilize the relief fund to provide safe temporary housing for flood victims.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, Dhital stated that living in holding centers following the floods has put the safety, dignity, and privacy of women and children at serious risk.
Dhital urged the government to prioritize the health, safety, and self-respect of women and children during the disaster. She emphasized the need to accelerate long-term social rehabilitation programs alongside rescue and relief efforts to help affected citizens regain stability.
The lawmaker noted that flood victims have lost essential daily medications, and the lack of proper management of animal carcasses has increased the risk of disease outbreaks.
She further highlighted that citizens remain disconnected from the outside world due to ongoing disruptions in communication and electricity services.
Dhital stressed that the government must remain sensitive to the increased burden of care, violence, and sexual exploitation that women face during such crises.
