KATHMANDU: Shram Sanskriti Party chief whip Aaren Rai has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, challenging officials to deliver results on pressing public issues.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Rai criticized the government for neglecting critical issues including the remittance-dependent economy, youth migration, rising inflation, and corruption.
The chief whip argued that the government’s promises of good governance have remained nothing more than weak slogans. He drew the attention of the parliament to the deteriorating quality of public education and stalled development projects within his constituency.
Questioning the government’s claims regarding opening old corruption files, Rai challenged the administration to utilize its near two-thirds majority to prosecute the corrupt. ‘Whether it is the Giribandhu Tea Estate or the wide-body aircraft scandal, you claimed to have a big heart, so what is stopping you? Are you speaking only for popularity?’ he asked.
He further clarified that his party would fully support the government in any genuine process to take action against those involved in corruption.
Criticizing the government’s ad-hoc policies, Rai stated that the administration has failed to address the issues of free visas and free tickets for workers, as well as the problems faced by farmers. ‘Do not end up falling into the pit you dug yourselves; change does not come by jailing protesters,’ he added.
He also questioned the government’s intentions regarding the suppression of the ‘Gen-Z’ movement. Furthermore, he warned the government against taking any actions contrary to federalism, democracy, and inclusivity while the parliament is not in session, stating that his party remains vigilant.
