KATHMANDU: Heavy and continuous rainfall has disrupted transportation in several parts of the country, with floods, landslides and mudslides blocking multiple road sections.

Nepal Police Headquarters said road conditions in several districts had deteriorated as of 6:30 am, affecting the movement of vehicles.

Authorities have introduced a daily traffic schedule on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which links Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, citing the risk of flooding. Vehicles can use the road from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm, while traffic will remain prohibited between 6:00 pm and 4:00 am.

Traffic has also been restricted on another road section from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am because of rainfall.

The Mechi Highway has been rendered impassable by mudslides at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9. Police said an alternative route is available there.

Similarly, a landslide has completely blocked the Araniko Highway at Charkilo-Liping in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, Sindhupalchok.

In Rasuwa, a landslide has brought traffic to a complete halt along the unpaved Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5.

The Jajarkot-Dolpa road section of the Bheri Corridor in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, has also been blocked by a landslide.

The Mid-Hill Highway is impassable at Kadabagar in Bhume Rural Municipality-4 and Dhaulapahira in the same municipality of Rukum East after landslides blocked the road.

Meanwhile, two sections of the Ghorahi-Thawang Shahid Marg, at Laplebhir and Dabang in Thawang Rural Municipality-2, Rolpa, have been blocked by landslides.

Police said efforts are being made in coordination with the concerned agencies and local governments to remove the debris and reopen the affected roads.
