NC publishes first list of candidates for 15th general convention

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) Central Election Committee has published the first list of candidates contesting various posts at the party’s ongoing 15th national general convention.

The party has 24 office-bearer positions, including one president, one senior vice-president, four vice-presidents, three general secretaries, 15 joint general secretaries and one treasurer.

Of these, 19 positions will be elected, while four joint general secretaries and the treasurer will be nominated by the party President.

According to the Election Committee, 79 candidates have filed nominations for the 19 elected office-bearer positions.

Three candidates are contesting the presidency: incumbent President Gagan Thapa, former Joint General Secretary Kishor Singh Rathore and former regional president Shyam Krishna Khadka.

Bishwa Prakash Sharma is contesting the senior vice-president post.

Ten candidates are vying for two open vice-president positions, while Pushpa Bhusal is contesting the women’s vice-president post and five candidates are competing for the inclusive vice-president position.

Seven candidates have filed nominations for two open general secretary positions, while three are contesting the women’s general secretary post.

A significant number of candidates have also filed nominations for various joint general secretary and central member positions.

Election Committee Member Secretary Raju Katuwal shared that claims and objections to the first list could be filed from 10:00am to noon today .
