KATHMANDU: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has handed over 17 surveillance drones to Nepal Police as an emergency assistance to speed up post-disaster works such as rescue, relief and rehabilitation.
Senior vice president and president of the Disaster Management Council at NCC, Dipak Kumar Malhotra, reached the Police Headquarters on Friday and handed over the drones to the security agency.
Inspector General of Nepal Police, Dan Bahadur Karki, Director General of NCC, Devendra Lamichhane, and Senior Superintendent of Nepal Police, Damodar Kandel, were present during the handover programme.
Director general Lamichhane informed the drones would be significant help in making search and rescue operations precise, prompt in the disaster-affected areas. He expressed the flying surveillance equipment would help in monitoring the flood-ripped areas so that it would be easy to identify the status and coordinate rescue works.
NCC has already sent two drones to Bidur Municipality. One of these has the capacity to lift 50 kg weight. The business entity has also provided 125 power banks to charge the electric gadgets essential for communication in the affected areas.
The businesspersons also launched a relief collection and distribution drive for the disaster survivors. Even the cash and in-kind support was provided to the worst hit districts- Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
