KATHMANDU: Ncell has extended its free voice, data and SMS services in flood-affected areas for an additional seven days, effective from Saturday, to support communication, search and rescue, and relief distribution efforts.

The extension means people in the affected areas will continue to receive the services free of charge for another week.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ncell had announced three days of free data, on-net voice calls and 100 free SMS for people affected by severe flooding along the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. The initial three-day period is ending today.

Ncell said communication services are particularly important during disasters as they enable information sharing, coordination and effective search, rescue and relief operations. The company said the extended free services will help affected residents stay connected with their families and loved ones, as well as teams involved in rescue and relief operations.

“Through this contribution, we believe people in the affected communities will be able to stay connected with their families and loved ones during this difficult time, while also making it easier for teams involved in rescue and relief efforts to coordinate as needed,” said Upanga Dutta, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Ncell. “In such difficult circumstances, it is everyone’s responsibility to extend whatever support they can.”

18 Mobile Towers Restored

Ncell said it has restored 18 mobile towers that were disrupted by the floods in affected areas. The company is continuing efforts to restore nine additional affected sites to maintain communication services.

The company has also contributed Rs. 10 million through the Ncell Foundation to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to support search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Meanwhile, Ncell has been disseminating necessary information through SMS and its social media platforms, urging residents in flood-affected areas to remain safe and follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
