KATHMANDU: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has criticized the government and Prime Minister Balendra Shah over issues related to nationalism, border security, and public livelihood.
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, NCP lawmaker Balawati Sharma accused the prime minister of being active mainly on social media while remaining indifferent to the country’s pressing problems.

Sharma renewed her objection to a statement the prime minister had made in Parliament, in which he reportedly said that Nepal had also encroached on Indian territory. She said the party would continue its protest until a clarification is provided and the statement is removed from the parliamentary record.

Drawing the government’s attention to an incident in Susta, Nawalparasi, Sharma said personnel of India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) had entered Nepali territory and demolished a temporary earthen embankment built by local residents.

She argued that the prime minister’s weak leadership and controversial remarks had encouraged what she described as the SSB’s overbearing behavior in border areas. Sharma also raised concerns about alleged encroachment in Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura.

Referring to the incident in Dewanganj, Sunsari, and the communal tension that later spread across parts of the Madhes, she said the government reacted too late to control the situation.
Sharma demanded adequate compensation for the victims and called for the formation of a credible commission to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident.
