KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to provide over Rs 3.3 million in compensation to two individuals injured in separate electrical accidents.
A board meeting held on Wednesday approved the distribution of funds to eight-year-old Rashmi Jaisi from Surkhet and NEA employee Sandesh Magar from Melamchi.
Rashmi Jaisi sustained severe injuries after coming into contact with an 11 kV transmission line, which was positioned near a bridge under construction in Panchapuri Municipality-2, Surkhet. The board has approved a total of Rs 1.38 million as compensation and relief.
According to board member Anshukiran Shahi, Jaisi had previously received Rs 300,000 as an advance for medical treatment. The remaining Rs 1.08 million will be paid following reports from the police, local government recommendations, and the NEA medical board, which confirmed her permanent disability and treatment costs.
In a separate incident, the NEA board approved Rs 1.97 million in compensation for 25-year-old employee Sandesh Magar. Magar, a native of Khotang, was injured on March 25, 2025, while replacing a disc pin on a 15 kV transmission line in Melamchi Municipality-10.
His medical expenses amounted to Rs 978,301. Under the authority’s compensation regulations, he is entitled to Rs 1 million in addition to the reimbursement of his medical costs. Having already received an advance of Rs 1 million, the remaining balance of Rs 978,301 will be disbursed through the relevant distribution center.
