KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to participate in Australia’s Top End T20 Series for the second time. This year, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will send the ‘A’ team to Australia instead of the senior squad.
The Nepal ‘A’ team, competing in the Top End T20 Series, comprises a blend of seasoned and young players. Under the leadership of captain Anil Kumar Sah, the team is well-balanced, leading both the coach and players to be optimistic about achieving favorable outcomes.
“The ‘A’ team is crucial for enhancing the strength of Nepali cricket,” stated Raju Basnyat, head coach of the Nepal ‘A’ team, who expressed confidence in the potential for positive results in Australia due to the players’ thorough preparation.While adapting to the local pitch pre
sents a challenge, he remains assured of the players’ capabilities. “We have been training consistently for the past 10-12 days. The preparation and the team dynamics are strong. The team features a commendable mix of experienced and young talent.
During our time in Australia, we aim to excel in both T20 and 50-over formats. I am optimistic that the players of the Nepal ‘A’ team will perform admirably by acclimatizing to the conditions there,” remarked head coach Basnyat during the team’s farewell event.
He emphasized the significance of maintaining the ‘A’ team to bolster Nepali cricket. “In the long run, the concept of the Nepal ‘A’ team is highly beneficial. Recently, new players from the ‘A’ team have been transitioning to the senior team.
Additionally, the practice of senior team players joining the ‘A’ team to regain their form underscores the importance of the ‘A’ team in strengthening Nepali cricket,” concluded head coach Basnyat.
In this series, Nepal will play the first match on August 21 against Northern Territory Strike. Similarly, they are scheduled to play against Bangladesh High Performance on August 22, Hobart Hurricanes on August 24, Australian Capital Territory on August 26, Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy on August 27 and Victoria CA-11 on August 29.
