KATHMANDU: Nepal’s anti-corruption watchdog received more than 33,000 complaints during the last fiscal year, with nearly half involving local governments, according to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

Speaking at the commission’s annual review program, officials said the CIAA received 33,328 complaints through various channels during the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Including 7,323 complaints carried over from the previous fiscal year, the commission handled a total of 40,651 cases.

Local governments accounted for the largest share, representing 48.96 percent of all complaints. Complaints involving federal government agencies made up 38 percent, while 13.04 percent were related to provincial governments.

The CIAA said it resolved 32,799 complaints, or 80.68 percent of the total cases handled during the fiscal year. The remaining 7,852 complaints have been carried forward for investigation in the current 2026/27 fiscal year.
