KATHMANDU: Nepal exported electricity worth more than Rs 5.09 billion to India and Bangladesh during the month of August.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), a total of 565.6 million units of electricity were exported during this period.
The authority reported that the electricity was sold through both bilateral agreements and the exchange market. Under bilateral agreements, over 421.6 million units were sold, generating more than Rs 3.64 billion. Additionally, the export of over 143.9 million units through the exchange market brought in Rs 1.44 billion.
Meanwhile, electricity exports to Bangladesh have been temporarily halted following damage to the structures of the Chilime and Trishuli hydropower stations caused by floods in the Bhote Koshi River. The authority stated that it has requested necessary approvals from the Indian side to resume exports to Bangladesh from other projects.
