KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ stated that the country is currently passing through a complex political, economic, and social crisis.
He made these remarks on Saturday while inaugurating the party’s two-month ‘National Awakening Campaign’ at the party headquarters in Parisdanda, Kathmandu.
In an appeal released during the event, Prachanda stated, ‘With the two-thirds majority government formed with high hopes and expectations failing to deliver results as anticipated by the people, frustration, dissatisfaction, and confusion are rising.’
He highlighted that inflation has made daily life difficult, while unemployment and youth migration have become significant issues.
He accused the current government of being intolerant toward democratic institutions, civil rights, and freedom of expression.
‘The government is showing a tendency to display intolerance toward dissenting opinions and is restricting the freedom of citizens to speak and ask questions,’ he said. He claimed that such tendencies pose a threat to the constitution and the federal democratic republic.
Addressing the recent floods, he expressed serious concern over the delay in search and rescue operations following the devastating flood in Bhotekoshi, Rasuwa. He alleged that the state failed to protect citizens’ lives during the disaster and did not adequately mobilize modern technology and personnel for rescue efforts.
The NCP’s campaign, which will run from Oct. 24 to Dec. 11, focuses on organizational expansion, protection of national sovereignty, and resolving livelihood issues.
Prachanda stated that central party leaders will reach out to villages and local wards to listen to public grievances and take initiatives for solutions. He added that the campaign aims to transform the party and prepare the foundation for socialism.
