KATHMANDU: Nepal imported 944,953 routers worth Rs2.47 billion during the fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS), with China accounting for more than 95 percent of both the import value and volume, according to the latest foreign trade data released by the Department of Customs.

The country imported routers worth Rs2.468 billion during the fiscal year, generating Rs461.5 million in customs revenue for the government.

Customs data show that routers were imported from 17 countries, including China, India, Vietnam, the United States, Malaysia, Taiwan, Latvia, Lithuania and the United Kingdom.

China remained Nepal’s dominant supplier, exporting 916,111 routers worth Rs2.368 billion, accounting for nearly 96 percent of the total import value.

Vietnam was the second-largest source, with 27,107 units valued at Rs85.9 million.

Imports from other countries were comparatively small. Nepal imported 913 routers worth Rs815,000 from India, 353 units worth Rs6 million from Latvia, 202 units worth Rs2.84 million from Lithuania, 103 units worth Rs1.94 million from Taiwan, 71 units worth Rs676,000 from Malaysia, 40 units worth Rs257,000 from an unspecified country, 16 units worth Rs119,000 from the United Kingdom and 13 routers worth Rs677,000 from the United States.

The figures underscore Nepal’s heavy dependence on Chinese manufacturers for networking equipment as demand for internet connectivity and digital infrastructure continues to grow.
