KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has expressed concern over recent incidents in parts of Nepal’s eastern Terai that have disrupted religious harmony and created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
In a public appeal issued on Friday, IGP Karki said it was unfortunate that activities capable of undermining communal harmony and social cohesion had emerged in some areas. He urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors, making provocative statements, or engaging in any unlawful activities, particularly through social media.
“Spreading misinformation, incitement, or violating the law serves no one’s interests,” Karki said, warning that such actions only fuel tension, mistrust, and division within society.
He stressed that, during this sensitive period, people should reject rumors, hatred, and provocation, and instead embrace wisdom, restraint, tolerance, and mutual respect.
The police chief also emphasized that respecting one another’s rights, religious beliefs, traditions, and dignity is a shared responsibility of all citizens.
“Our religions, traditions, and cultures may be different, but we share one nation and one common spirit,” Karki said.
Appealing to all Nepalis to remain calm, Karki called on citizens to respect each other’s cultures, customs, and faiths while upholding social harmony, national unity, and brotherhood through patience, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
