KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has deployed 5,917 personnel across flood-affected areas, prioritising rescue, search and relief operations, the police said.
The teams are operating under the direct supervision and direction of the inspector general, additional inspector generals and deputy inspector generals.
According to Nepal Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle, specialised teams led by senior superintendents of police have been deployed in each district affected along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors.
To strengthen the rescue operation, leave for all police personnel has been cancelled and officers have been kept on standby around the clock, Kafle said.
Additional disaster-response and communications teams have been deployed to severely affected areas, including Rasuwa. Police have also coordinated with telecommunications operators and sent teams to establish temporary mobile towers in areas where communication services have been disrupted.
Kafle said 26 Nepal Police personnel remain missing following the floods. Of the bodies recovered so far, two have been identified as police personnel and handed over to their families.
Special teams have been deployed to identify the remaining bodies and complete the required legal procedures.
Kafle said police personnel continue to be deployed as needed to sustain relief, rescue and search operations in the affected areas.
