KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has decided to provide Rs 1 million in financial assistance to the family of each police personnel killed in the recent Bhote Koshi-Trishuli flood in Rasuwa district. The decision was made on Wednesday during a meeting of the Police Coordination Committee chaired by Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki at the Nepal Police Headquarters.

The monetary relief will be distributed from a relief fund collected directly through contributions from police personnel. In addition to financial support, the meeting decided to waive special loans taken by deceased officers from the Nepal Police Welfare Fund. The police administration will also initiate skill-based training and employment opportunities for one interested member from each affected family.

For the education of the deceased officers’ children, tuition fees will be waived up to the basic level at nearby Police Residential Schools, and for higher education at the Nepal Police Residential School in Sanga, Kavre. Meanwhile, expert teams are being deployed to make the search operations for missing officers more effective, with continuous coordination maintained with their families. Full medical support was promised for injured officers.

Officers serving in flood-affected police units, including Area Police Office Timure, Temporary Police Post Mailung, Police Post Rasuwagadhi, Police Post Syabrubesi, and Police Post Betrawati, will receive Rs 50,000 each for personal property damage. Furthermore, Nepal Police decided to contribute Rs 400 million, gathered from officers’ contributions, to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. A senior police officer from the Human Resource Development Department has been designated as a contact person to facilitate all benefits and services for the families of deceased, missing, and injured personnel. So far, three dead bodies of police personnel have been recovered, while 25 remain missing.
