Kathmandu, July 30: The Nepal Securities Board (SEBON) held a discussion and interaction program with representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) community on Wednesday, focusing on measures to facilitate their participation in Nepal’s capital market.

The meeting, held at SEBON’s office in Lalitpur, was attended by Board Chairman Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta and other senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Bhatta said the government has already announced, through the national budget, its intention to amend legal provisions to allow Non-Resident Nepalis to participate in Nepal’s secondary securities market. He noted that the initiative has also been incorporated into SEBON’s capital market policy and annual program for the fiscal year 2026/27 (2083/84 BS), and that the Board is moving forward with the necessary preparations.

Bhatta also stated that SEBON is committed to facilitating mechanisms that connect the skills, knowledge, and capital acquired by Nepalis living abroad with Nepal’s infrastructure development.

During the discussion, NRN representatives welcomed the recent initiatives taken by the government and SEBON, saying they are helping create a favorable environment for overseas Nepalis to invest in Nepal’s securities market.

They informed the Board that an investment company jointly established by the Government of Nepal and the Non-Resident Nepali community plans to raise capital by issuing public shares to NRNs and Nepalis living abroad. The funds, they said, would be invested in Nepal’s physical infrastructure projects.

The representatives further said the company also intends to mobilize investment in the future by issuing project-specific debt instruments, including bonds and debentures, and requested SEBON to facilitate the necessary legal and regulatory reforms to support the initiative.
