KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has transformed a viral video featuring three schoolgirls from Rolpa into a road safety awareness campaign, using the children’s colorful raincoats to explain the meaning of traffic signals.
The video, which has gained widespread attention on social media, shows the girls walking home from school in the rain wearing yellow, green and pink raincoats.
Drawing inspiration from the clip, traffic police created a public awareness message comparing the colors of the raincoats with traffic lights. The campaign explains that a yellow light signals drivers to prepare to stop, a green light indicates it is safe to proceed, and a red light means stop, with the pink raincoat symbolically representing the red signal.
The awareness message concludes with the line: “Just like these adorable children, traffic lights are also speaking to us in the language of care.”
The creative campaign has been widely praised on social media, with many users applauding the police for using a popular online trend to promote road safety.
Some users, however, also urged authorities to ensure that traffic lights across Kathmandu Valley remain fully operational, noting that malfunctioning signals at several busy intersections continue to disrupt traffic flow and calling for their prompt repair.
