KATHMANDU: Nepali Army Officer Cadet Himal Nepali has successfully completed the Commissioning Course at the United Kingdom’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS).

Nepali was awarded the ‘Sandhurst Medal’ by Major General Nick Cowley OBE, general officer commanding of the Army Individual Training Command.

The British Embassy said the achievement reflects the long-standing defense cooperation between Nepal and the United Kingdom.

The two countries have maintained military exchange programs that provide opportunities for their armed forces personnel to train and serve alongside each other.

Nepal and British authorities began sharing and recruiting military forces on April 1815, following the Anglo-Nepalese War, when the British East India Company started enlisting Nepali soldiers.

This arrangement was formalized by the Treaty of Sugauli in 1816 and later updated by the 1947 Tripartite Agreement.

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is regarded as one of the UK’s premier institutions for military officer training and attracts officer cadets from countries around the world.
