KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has called a meeting of the party’s chief ministers and provincial presidents following the power-sharing agreement between the CPN-UML and the NCP on provincial governments.

Thapa and Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma are scheduled to meet the provincial leaders at 9:30 am on Sunday to discuss the party’s strategy after the two communist parties agreed on a new provincial power-sharing arrangement.

The meeting is expected to formulate the Congress’s position on provincial governments in light of the new political equation.

The Nepali Congress currently leads governments in four provinces.

Under Saturday’s agreement, UML will lead the governments in Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini, while the NCP will head the governments in Karnali and Sudurpashchim. In the remaining provinces, the UML-NCP alliance is expected to require the support or cooperation of the Nepali Congress to form governments.
