KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has donated Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support victims of the Bhotekoshi floods. A delegation led by General Secretary Pradeep Poudel handed over the cheque to Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle today.
The funds were collected from party leaders and workers. The delegation included party treasurer Umesh Shrestha, spokesperson Devrao Chalise, chief whip Basana Thapa, and lawmaker Mohan Acharya, who represents the Rasuwa constituency.
General Secretary Poudel stated that the assistance aims to provide immediate relief, medical treatment, and shelter to the affected families. He emphasized that the Nepali Congress stands with the flood victims during this difficult time.
During the handover, Poudel expressed concern over delays in rescue operations for individuals trapped in tunnels and other areas affected by the floods. He urged the government to address these delays and accelerate rescue efforts immediately. Furthermore, he called for reconstruction work on damaged infrastructure in the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi regions to be fast-tracked.
Poudel also drew the government’s attention to the need for transparent relief distribution and more effective disaster management moving forward. He pledged the party’s full support to the government in search and rescue operations, as well as in the long-term rehabilitation of displaced citizens.
