KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress is holding elections today to select its new central working committee as part of its 15th general convention.
Due to heavy rain and technical issues, voting will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the election committee.
A total of 7,255 convention representatives are expected to cast their votes for the party president, office bearers, and central members.
Polling stations have been established at the Rastriya Sabha Griha and Khulamanch. Representatives from the Bagmati Province will cast their ballots at polling center ‘A’ in the Rastriya Sabha Griha. Other provinces and groups have been assigned to various halls at Khulamanch.
The Himal Hall is designated for Gandaki Province, the Tarai-Madhes Hall for Madhes Province, and the Pahad Hall for representatives from Lumbini, Karnali, Sudurpashchim provinces, the Nepali Public Relations Committee, and sister organizations. Representatives from the Koshi Province and the Tarai-Madhes group will vote at polling center ‘B’ at Khulamanch.
Voters must verify their identity cards and voter registration lists before entering the polling areas. The election code of conduct prohibits mobile phones and other restricted items inside the voting sites.
The processes for candidate registration, objections, and withdrawals have already concluded. This convention will elect a 297-member central working committee following recent constitutional amendments.
